Bradford's Growing Recreation Scene
Bradford West Gwillimbury punches well above its weight in recreation for a town of its size. The Bradford & District Community Centre on Simcoe Road is the anchor — a comprehensive facility serving thousands of residents annually with hockey, swimming, fitness, and leisure programming. For a municipality of under 60,000 people, having two full ice pads and a competition-quality pool available year-round is a genuine asset.
Beyond the BDCC, Bradford's parks system provides the outdoor infrastructure for soccer, baseball, cycling, and casual recreation. Henderson Memorial Park on Line 9 is a standout: a large, modern park with a splash pad, basketball courts, and walking trails that serves as a second community hub in the east end of Bradford. Scanlon Creek Conservation Area to the north offers a completely different experience — wild trails, fishing ponds, and off-leash dog areas set within 300+ hectares of Simcoe County conservation land.
As Bradford's population grows — it is among the fastest-growing municipalities in Ontario — pressure on recreation infrastructure is increasing. The Town of BWG has acknowledged the need for additional facilities. New residents moving to Heritage Heights and north Bradford communities have driven significant demand for expanded programming. For now, registering early is the key to securing spots in popular programs.
